GUITAR legend Jan Akkerman will be blowing the roof off the Wharf, Tavistock on Saturday with a blisteing live concert.

Jan Akkerman's Focus is playing the only date in the west as part of a national tour.

The audience will be treated to a fabulous two hour show with one of the world's premier virtuoso guitarists. Jan first came to prominence with Dutch band Focus in the early seventies where, in conjunction with Thijs Van Leer he penned two massive selling singles 'Sylvia' and 'Hocus Pocus'. The band also enjoyed a string of hit albums on both sides of the Atlantic — including 'Moving Waves', 'Focus 111' and 'Focus Live At The Rainbow'.

During his time with Focus, Jan was voted the World's greatest guitarist ahead of Eric Clapton.

With the demise of Focus in the late 70s he continued to release a string of successful albums — 20 to date — as he has continued his ground-breaking work in the neo-classical jazz/rock field.

Outside his native Holland his live appearances have become increasingly rare. But in May 1999 he played five shows in the UK before large, enthusiastic crowds prompting a desire to return to the live stage on a more regular basis.

With the release of his back catalogue on CD and an increasing reawakening of interest in Focus the time has not been better for Jan Akkerman.

Jan remains one of the world's premier, virtuoso guitarists — greatly admired by his peers. His amazing two hour show will feature the best of Focus and songs drawn from throughout his solo career.
