TAVISTOCK District Guides are gearing up for their Christmas postal service. Stamps will go on sale in shops from Monday, November 29 and boxes will be open until 5pm on Friday, December 17. The service has operated in the town for 15 years, with local cards being delivered by the Guides for the price of a 15p stamp. The special blue stamps are on sale from members of Girl Guiding Tavistock and from Lake Pharmacy, Superdrug, Tavistock Launderette, Crelake Stores in Whitchurch Road and the Charity Card Shop in the United Reformed Church in Russell Street. After the closing date, the cards will be sorted and delivered over the following weekend. Blue post-boxes will be located at the above outlets, in all Guide meeting halls and at Ford Street Spar store. The delivery area includes all roads within Tavistock and Whitchurch. The Guides regret they are unable to deliver to surrounding villages. Customers are asked to ensure envelopes are correctly and clearly addressed in order to avoid disappointment. A spokesperson for the Guides said the scheme enabled them to be of service to the community while at the same time raising funds to help subsidise Guiding activities throughout the year. Nine different groups are involved, with girls from 5 to 18 years, as well as voluntary adult leaders.
