Bodmin Trophies Duchy League Div Three Cup First Round

Tregony . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4

Lamerton . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5

LAMERTON finally emerged victorious after a tense cup tie against Tregony.

Playing against the wind in the first half Lamerton restricted the home side to few chances but created little themselves against a solid back five.

They came closest with a Paul Breyley header which went over the bar and a Kev Swift shot which narrowly missed the target.

Playing down the slope in the second half Lamerton took the lead when Paul Cowling got on the end of a Dan O'Hare to slide the ball past the keeper.

The bobbly pitch made it difficult for both sides and chances were at a premium. Just when it looked as if Lamerton would progress into the next round of the cup the Tregony fullback Kevin Beel made a good run into the visitors' box to make the scores level.

Extra time saw the best chance fall to the home side, with their skipper firing narrowly wide, but the golden goal was not to be and penalties ensued.

Lamerton keeper Pete Daniel then came into his own saving three of the six taken against him and the visitors won the shoot out 4-3. Dan O'Hare, Tim Lyle, Dan Healy and Paul Breyley all kept their nerve to ensure a welcome, albeit not too convincing, win.

This Saturday Lamerton visit Callington in the league (k.o.2.30 pm).
