MOTHERS across West Devon are being given the chance to find out more about real nappies and how they can save families an average of £500.
West Devon Borough Council is hosting a 'Nappuchino' event, where mothers can get together for a coffee and chat with a nappy advisor about switching from disposables.
There will also be real nappies on display so mothers can see just how far they have come since the days of terry towels and safety pins.
Real nappy advisor Rosie Davis from Green Mums uses real nappies for her four-month-old baby girl Robyn.
Rosie said: 'I decided to try them because I wanted a green option and hated the thought of all those disposable nappies going to landfill.
'They are really easy to use and simple to wash. They come in different colours and look really pretty. Robyn has never had a leak while wearing one and I think they must feel nicer on her skin.
'Over the course of Robyn's time in nappies, we'll save around £500 and that includes the washing costs.'
In Devon alone, 28 million disposable nappies are buried in landfill sites each year so choosing real nappies can make a big contribution to cutting down on waste.
The Nappuchino event takes place in meeting room four at the borough council's Kilworthy Park offices in Tavistock on Wednesday, December 5 between noon and 4.30pm.
Mothers are welcome to drop in at anytime. The event is toddler and breast-feeding friendly.
