I AM writing to inform your readers about the plan to cut up old nuclear powered submarines in Devonport. Consultation starts this winter on plans to cut up the reactor cores in the centre of Plymouth.

I believe the sawing up and storage of toxic, radioactive waste in the centre of the city is a threat to everyone in Plymouth and surrounding area, which will blight us for generations.

I would urge residents of Tavistock who care about the future of this area to join the CND national demonstration in Plymouth on October 31. We need to create green jobs for a sustainable future in Plymouth, not turn it into a nuclear scrapyard.
