A NEW herb and soft fruit garden is set to be created at the Tamar Trails Centre at Gulworthy and willing volunteers are needed to help build and care for it.
Green-fingered volunteers are being sought to build raised beds, erect wire fencing, plant the seeds and plants and care for them as they grow.
Dave Readman, who is leading the Valley Volunteers group, said: 'We are creating a new edible garden as part of "market Garden Month" in the Tamar Valley, with herbs and soft fruit.
'This is also a demonstration project to reclaim derelict land through the use of raised beds, composting and protection from rabbits.
'Volunteers will have the chance to learn about simple construction methods, soil improvement and pest management over the next few weeks, as well as planting and looking after a range of useful plants.'
The first volunteer opportunity takes place on Saturday, March 21, from 10.30am to 4pm, where volunteers can help to create the raised beds.
If there's time, small wooden planters will also be made.
Further dates will be fencing on Saturday, March 28, planting on Saturday, April 11 and maintaining the garden on Saturday, May 9, all from 10.30am to 4pm.
