A PROJECT managed by the South West Lakes Trust which offers flexible training to residents across Devon has gone from strength to strength in its first year.

The two-year Green Bridge Project, which was launched at Roadford Lake by Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw, was designed to train 35 people each year but has been so well attended it has provided training for 62 people already.

School leavers, the umemployed and those wishing to return to work are all catered for in the project, which aims to help people achieve national qualifications in countryside management and watersports instruction.

It is funded by the Learning European Social Fund.

Beginning with taster day back in March, the project got off to a flying start and introduced a variety of people to watersports and countryside skills.

The courses undertaken have included sailing and windsurfing, kayaking, woodchipping, hedge laying and strimming.

The project is set to run for another year and new participants are now being taken for 2004.
