DEVON school pupils have been invited to 'turn their tickets green' this October half-term for a new environmentally friendly project.
Children will be encouraged to walk, cycle or take the bus to earn their school a chance to win £500 towards a green project that will enhance the school while using an environmentally friendly alternative to the car.
There is one £500 prize for a school in the South Devon operating area, including Plymouth, run by First Western National.
There will be a similar prize for one school in Barnstaple and North Devon, the area operated by First Red Bus.
The aim of the project is to get children thinking green, by using alternative modes of transport to the car, during the half-term holiday. It is hoped the project will get children thinking about the way they travel to school.
The winner will be a school with a substantial voucher to student ratio along with a good green project plan, to be judged by First Western National.
Paul McGowan, managing director of First Western National said: 'School runs are a big contribution to congestion and pollution around schools and residential areas, which has a negative impact on the environment and the health of our children.
'Reducing the amount of pollution by using an alternative to the car, even if it's just once a week, would be a huge benefit to everyone.'
Special ticket promotions will be available on bus services to Plymouth. The competition has been advertised in local press as well as through schools.
