STUDENTS at Kelly College have taken on a mammoth rowing challenge, to raise funds for a student colleague seriously injured in a rugby match two years ago.
In October 2009 Max Levene suffered a tragic and life changing accident while playing rugby for Truro School at Kelly College.
The accident left him permanently paralysed.
The Max Levene Trust was set up to secure Max's future and it also ensures that he is able to have the best quality of life possible given his injuries.
To support that effort and help Max, students at Kelly, led by Benedict Murphy and Peter Meachin and supported by housemaster Dominic Tomalin, decided to focus this term's charitable efforts on supporting the Trust.
They set themselves the challenge of rowing the distance from Tavistock to Truro and back again.
They were generously offered the use of rowing machines at Body Zone in Tavistock — rather than actually using the A30 — where pupils and staff were challenged to achieve the 120 miles collectively in not more than 2 hours.
Not only did they actually manage to achieve the initial target of 192km but went on to an impressive total of 221.5km!
Donations are still being collected until December 12 – and students are hoping to raise well over £1,000.
If you would like to read more about the appeal, or make a donation, please visit kellycollege.com and go to Kelly News.
A spokesperson for the school said: 'Max is a truly exceptional young man, and fully deserving of the Kelly students efforts and the support of all our donors!'
