A MAGICAL night of music from the 1930s and 1940s is in store at The Wharf in Tavistock this Sunday, November 4, when singer and pianist Michael Law presents his show, Cocktails and Laughter. Long time cabaret associate of the late and much-missed Sheridan Morley, Michael, (pictured right), evokes the long lost world of nightclubs, champagne and great songs which tell the story of their time, in a show produced by Alan Bennett. From Noel Coward to Cole Porter; Gershwin to Novello; a touch of Flanders and Swann to Ivor Novello, the performance promises to provide tremendous atmosphere and wonderful music. In his solo career, Michael plays and sings the cabaret classics, interwoven with stories and anecdotes about Noel Coward, as well as the singers, composers and lyricists whose lives coincided with his. Angela Court of The Wharf said: ?It?s going to be really wonderful. ?Michael is a fantastic performer, I think it?s going to be a really good evening. ?Those songs from the 30s and 40s, like ?Don?t Put your Daughter on the Stage, Mrs Worthington? and so many others are just great.? Michael has performed in the Raffles Hotel in Singapore and at The Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, as well as aboard the QE2 and QM2 and at The Savoy Hotel, Claridges and the famous cabaret venue Pizza on the Park in London. He has broadcast for BBC radio and television and recorded five albums, including a CD with Sheridan Morley. Box office: 01822 611166.
