THERE was plenty to celebrate at South Zeal on Saturday during the annual Zale Fayre — especially for the village youngsters.

Committee members of South Zeal Recreational Ground Association (pictured) marked the completion of the £83,000 project to create a new children's playground in the village.

The original fundraising started back in 2006 and since then the association has raised more than £13,000 itself with events including the annual summer ball, dances, beetle drives and plant stalls.

The remaining funds came from grants, including £40,000 from Devon County Council from the sale of Exeter Airport, Big Lottery Fund Community Spaces, Devon Community Foundation. Donations include West Devon Borough Council, Lions Club, Okehampton Round Table and Manor House, Okehampton.
