BUCKLAND Abbey near Yelverton will be staging a traditional Wassail to welcome in the New Year this Saturday.
Wassailing is an ancient tradition and a fun way of waking up apple and pear trees from their winter slumber to ensure a bumper crop the following autumn.
Buckland's Wassail includes Morris dancing and music from Lodestone Border Morris, plus storytelling from Steve Manning.
Brimblecombes Cider as well as pork and apple hotdogs will be on sale to accompany the entertainment.
Jonathan Cummins, house and visitor services manager said: 'Our wassail is a really fun evening for everyone, old and young alike.
'Bring the family along to help toast the trees and enjoy a great time around the bonfire.'
There is no charge for the event, which starts in the Great Barn at 7pm. Just remember to wrap up warmly and bring something noisy to help wake the apple trees.
