Altarnun 1

Lamerton 3

LAMERTON put together their best performance of the season in this tough away fixture. Altarnun took the lead against the run of play midway through the first half via a soft penalty with Simon Breyley adjudged to have tripped Neil Tryner as he went to clear from a corner. The Lamerton midfield was often first to the ball and had good chances in the first half.

Ross Hann was linking the play well up front and squared to Blair Vanstone, whose shot from inside the box was well saved. Tony Jones and Dan Healy had plenty of space from full back and Jones could have levelled the match if he connected better with a left foot volley from 12 yards.

Lamerton turned up the heat even more in the second half and the equaliser came just ten minutes in. Steve Gibbings got onto the end of a cross and his looping header deceived the home keeper, before hitting the bar; Hann was on hand to nod in from close range.

Vanstone was starting to produce some magic on the left wing and it wasn't long before Lamerton took the lead. Hann found space just inside the box and slotted home an excellent shot for his second.

Altarnun came back into the game for the final 20 minutes, but could not create a good enough chance to score and eight minutes from time Lee Hould provided a cool finish to make the game safe.

On Saturday Lamerton are away to Bere Alston Seconds in the Devon intermediate cup, area semi final, ko 2pm.
