Okehampton Acorns 34
Bideford Nomads 0
OKEHAMPTON Thirds entertained their Bideford counterparts at a blustery showground on Saturday, and although being a lot smaller than their opponents they played with greater skill and teamwork.
Playing uphill and against the wind the Okes decided to run most of their possession, and this paid dividends as Bideford tired quickly going from one side to the other.
Ollie Faye opened the scoring with a strong run, swiftly followed by Jamie Hoggins barging over in the corner. Neil Palmer finished the first half scoring with a powerful run, crossing the line with two Bideford players hanging on to him. Perry Vallance converted two.
In the second half Bideford played with more resolve and the Acorns found them harder to break down, until Hoggins bagged his second of the match from a five-yard scrum, when he bullocked over, putting the Bideford winger a yard over the dead ball line in the process.
Skipper Vallance soon added another try after great work from the backs.
Near the end Ollie Faye capped a super performance, grabbing his second and Okes' sixth, popping up in the loose to sprint over.
This was a superb display by the Acorns, especially the half back combination of Steve Cook and Richie Gee, and the centre partnership of Rich Camies and Will Campbell.
The next game is on November 15 at Crediton. Anyone interested in playing please contact Perry on Okehampton 52417.
