Devon League Whitchurch 1st v Chelston 1st THIS game was vital, with Chelston bottom and Whitchurch third from bottom. It all started well for Whitchurch, when Credicott won the toss for the first time in many weeks and decided to bowl first on a pitch which looked like it would favour swing bowling. Whitchurch started very well and by the 15th over Whitchurch had taken four wickets with Lavis and Sizmur having two each. But after the flurry of wickets, Chelston middle order dug deep, with V Symons (23) and A Jrannic (34) having a good partnership. Whitchurch did not help themselves by dropping catches and giving away 42 extras, but Gray came in to join Clapham. They were under pressure straight away with V Katharini swinging the ball both ways. After he was taken off Clapham and Gray started to play extravagant shots to push the score along. Clapham finally went for a workmanlike 58. He had put on a second wicked stand of 118 with Gray. Captain Credicott joined Gray at the crease with them needing 70 runs off 14 overs. Chelston brought back their opening bowler to keep the score down, but it had the opposite effect with Gray and Credicott using the pace of the ball to wrap up the win, Whitchurch finishing on 202 for 2. Gray finished on 81 not out off 88 balls and hit 11 fours and one six and Credicott finished the game with 32 not out off 37 balls, in a partnership of 70 off only 10 overs. Whitchurch got 19 points and Chelston six.
