CARERS of adults with learning disabilities from Tavistock have been awarded a grant for short-term respite care. Jackie Milan, the learning disabilities carers worker for the area, said the money would be spent to fund trips to local attractions such as the Garden House in Buckland Monachorum, theatre and cinema visits, arts events and tours — and further suggestions were welcome. 'Carers are often under great pressure and this grant will allow carers time off to look after their own needs,' said Jackie. There are meetings in the town for carers, but Jackie said some carers might not be aware of the support and opportunities available.
