A GRANT of £2,000 has been awarded to Tavistock Parish Church by the Ouseley Church Music Trust to promote and maintain the high standard of its choral services.

Welcoming the news, the vicar, the Very Rev Dr Christopher Hardwick, said: ‘The church is extremely grateful to the trust for this award. Since music director Scott Angell joined us in January, he has been enthusiastically bringing new developments with his high quality organ playing and breadth of repertoire, together with new anthems and activities with the choir.’

Scott said: ‘I truly believe that music enhances the worship and for people to feel a further connection to the service or concert setting.

‘Since I have arrived the choir have continued to thrive and, in my opinion, have become almost the standard of any good cathedral choir.

‘They will always try anything I give them.’

He thanked Mr Hardwick for working with him to support the continuing growth of the music programme in the church and the community.

This Sunday (November 3) the choir will sing Gabriel Faure’s Requiem at the All Souls service at 6pm and on Saturday, November 30, take part in the Royal School of Church’s Music Advent Carol Service at Buckfast Abbey.

On Sunday, December 1, the choir will sing at the traditional service of Advent carols and readings at Tavistock Parish Church, to which everyone is welcome.
