TAVISTOCK's regular Acoustic Café is celebrating a huge boost in the form of a grant for £1,000 from TAVI (the Tavistock and Villages development forum). The grant, which will pay for new equipment including a completely new PA system, is set to benefit local musicians and groups. The Acoustic Café has raised more than £20,000 for local good causes since it was formed seven years ago and now has state of the art equipment to replace its ailing PA system, which was second hand when it was first purchased by café organisers. Jeff Sleeman, who coordinates the activities of the café along with a group of loyal volunteers, said: ' It is very rewarding to be recognised by a group like TAVI for all our work and the contribution of the musicians and the regular crowd. It has given the café a new lease of life and will help us carry the café forward. The café opens its doors again on Saturday April 26 at 7:30 pm at the parish rooms on Plymouth Road, this time to benefit Oxfam, and will include a mixed line up of folk, rock and jazz . This year for the first time the Acoustic Café will be part of the Tavistock Music and Arts festival. The cafe will be held at The Wharf on Thursday May 1. This extra bumper edition of the café will support not one but three organisations — Tavistock Aphasia Trust, the RNLI and Surfers against Sewage. Tickets for this are available from the Wharf box office on 01822 611166.
