TAVISTOCK resident Florence Fry received a telegram from the Queen recently upon the occasion of her 100th birthday.
Mrs Fry, known to everyone as Gran, lives in Tavistock with her daughter Marilyn.
Both of them and other members of their family are long time supporters of the British Heart Foundation and for her birthday Mrs Fry requested 'no gifts but instead donations to the British Heart Foundation'.
Mrs Fry said her birthday celebrations had continued over three days and she had enjoyed a wonderful time, surrounded by her family and many friends who had been very kind and generous. The total raised for the Tavistock branch of the foundation was £430.
Secretary of the local BHF Branch, Kris Budge, said: 'This was a wonderful donation to the Foundation and we are very grateful to Gran for thinking of us at this joyous time.
'Over the years I have had much contact with this wonderful lady and her family and the committee are very grateful for the help and support they have always shown to us.'
