GRAMMY Award winning Van Morrison OBE has been a prominent figure in the music industry for the last four decades and will head to Plymouth Pavilions on Saturday August 25. Van Morrison was once quoted as saying: ?The only thing that matters is whether you?ve got it or not. The only thing that counts is if you?re still around. And I?m still around?. That still holds true today ? listen and learn. Much of his music is tightly structured around the conventions of American soul and R&B, such as the popular singles ?Brown Eyed Girl?, ?Moondance?, ?Domino? and ?Wild Night?. In 1993 he was inducted into the ?Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? and the ?Songwriters Hall of Fame? in 2003. In 2000, Morrison ranked number 25 on American cable music channel VH1?s list of its 100 greatest artists of rock and roll and in 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Van Morrison 42nd on their list of The Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. More recently, in April of this year, Q Magazine ranked him 22nd on their list of 100 Greatest Singers. He plays a variety of instruments, including the guitar, harmonica, keyboards, drums, and saxophone. Featuring his characteristic growl, Morrison is widely considered one of the most unusual and influential vocalists in the history of rock and roll. ?The Best of Van Morrison Volume 3? was released back in June featuring 31 tracks. The album is a collection of Van?s later material including 2 previously unreleased tracks and duets with Tom Jones, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King and Ray Charles. The sources of the key tracks from the last 15 years range from 1993?s Number 4 album ?Too Long In Exile? to 2005?s ?Magic Time?, while a selection of choice cuts from hard-to-find releases will delight aficionados. It?s impossible to define Morrison with reference to any one recording, but the sheer diversity of the material on the album, encompassing live tracks, studio takes and remixes, sets a standard others will be hard-pressed to equal.
