Tavistock Ladies firsts 2 Caradon 0 THE hockey game opened with Tavistock making numerous careless mistakes and thus allowing the opposition to take advantage and bring the ball down the pitch. Tavistock's defence held strong and despite Caradon being awarded numerous short corners the speed of the Tavistock back line and excellent skills from goalkeeper Zoe Viggers kept out the Cornish attack. Tavistock's Fiona Dunn and Laura Stapleton held firm in defence and with the quick legs of Sarah Barratt and Chloe Bassett it was not long before the ball was back up the other end of the pitch. Becky Lamb struck some lovely balls across into the 'D' but Tavistock could not get on the end of them. Laura Armstrong worked well in this game and chased every ball down. With Nikki Woodroffe and Jo Gaspar looking to mix it up in the 'D' for the home side it was not long before a shot was taken at the keeper. The ball was deflected and Armstrong picked it up on her stick and hit a hefty strike past the keeper. The second-half saw a much more confident Tavistock and with Susannah Boulle and Lisa Butler making some good interceptions it was extremely difficult for the opposition to break through. The key to the team's success was man to man marking. Woodroofe played through midfield in the second-half for Tavistock resulting in Judy Miller looking to poach some goals. Tavistock continued to hassle and were eventually awarded with a few short corners on the trot. With a move of players around the 'D' putting Woodroffe on the right slip the ball was fed out to her. She took a good strike at the keeper and the ball was slotted away nice and easily. The home were unfortunate when they had a claim for a goal disallowed. Tavistock were playing some good hockey and when the final whistle went the team were really pleased to have achieved a good result from a good game of hockey. l This week Tavistock are at home on Saturday Kelly at 10.15am against Penzance.
