YOUNGSTERS from the Tavistock area will be taking part in a star-studded event at the Royal Albert Hall next month to raise funds for Africa.

Tavistock-based students at the Stagecoach Theatre Arts School in Plymouth will be part of a 3,000 strong Gospel choir performing at the concert.

Sir Cliff Richard is the latest famous name to join the show, which will include performances by Gabrielle, Boney M and Patti Boulaye.

The rising stars from Plymouth Stagecoach, run by Frances May, are part of the group's network of part-time performing arts schools in the UK which has helped put together a Gospel choir for the event.

The youngsters from Stagecoach are also performing in a cameo slot and are hoping to raise £50,000 through sponsorship.

The same students will also be singing at the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations at Buckingham Palace in June.

The 'Reaching out for Africa' concert will raise much-needed funds to build clinics providing practical medical help through education and awareness, with the emphasis on prevention in the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria.

The event, organised by performer Patti Boulaye, will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, March 10.
