OKEHAMPTON fire crews have been busy this week, attending several gorse fires on moorland in the area.

Station officer Ian Donovan said moorland at Blackdown, between Lydford and Mary Tavy, had been a particular hot-spot for the fires.

The crews were also called to a road traffic collision at Upcott Hill near Okehampton on Tuesday night.

And Mr Donovan said he and the fire crews would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the sponsored car wash at Waitrose car park last Saturday, which raised £535 for Comic Relief.

?We had to stop washing at about 12 o?clock because we had calls ? otherwise I think if we?d gone on into the afternoon, we could have hit our target of £1,000,? said Mr Donovan.
