STALL rents at Tavistock's Goose Fair could see an increase of two per cent, it was learned last week.
Members of Tavistock Town Council's properties committee met on April 7 and endorsed a recommendation to increase the rent of pitches, excluding fly pitches.
The recommendation came after a Goose Fair meeting was held on March 24 and attended by Tavistock town councillors and officers from West Devon Borough Council and the town council.
Information on town council costs, fuel costs, inflation, consumer price and retail price index figures were circulated at the fair meeting.
General manager Wayne Southall told those present that it was likely the increased costs to the town council could be more than £1,000 for 2015, which did not include street cleaning.
After negotiating with representatives of the Showmen's Guild and National Market Traders Federation, it was proposed the fees overall be increased by 2% with the exception of fly pitches.
Commercial stalls will pay £10.55, an increase of 20p from 2014; charity stalls, £5.30, increase of 12p; circular stalls, juvenile rides and bouncy castles, £7.25, increase of 15p; mechanical riding machines, £14.35, increase of 30p. Fly pitches will remain at £35.
Councillors from the properties committee agreed with the recommended fees for Goose Fair 2015.
The recommendation was due to be ratified at full council on Tuesday (April 14).
