LOCAL, national and international stalls selling Fairtrade goods pulled in the punters last Saturday when the Tavistock Fairtrade Town Initiative held its annual Fairtrade Fair at The Parish Centre on Plymouth Road. From 10am until 4pm people were able to browse through items ranging from baby clothes to bags, safe in the knowledge that the people in the countries who produced them had been paid a fair price for their labours. A spokesman for Tavistock Fairtrade group said: ' The aim of the fair was to raise awareness of the importance of buying fairly traded goods and to highlight the local shops, market traders and cafes who stock Fairtrade items.' Traders included Goodies From The Gambia, One World Foundation, BagsAnd, The Santa Rosa Fund, So Indigo, Oxfam, Tamwed and Revolution. People were also given the opportunity to sample Fairtrade cake and chocolate at the Co-op stall which was showcasing the wide range of Fairtrade products in their stores while Food Dreckly provided refreshments throughout the day. Businesses and stallholders donated Fairtrade items for a raffle and there was the chance to take part in the Tavistock Fairtrade Town Trail to win some Fairtrade wine donated by the Co-op. Town trail forms are still available at Revolution in Russell Street — the closing date is March 17. The next meeting of the Tavistock Fairtrade Town Initiative is on April 19 at 7.30pm at Kingdon House — everyone welcome.
