Launceston U12s 0 and 0 Tavistock U12s 43 and 14 A SQUAD of 19 boys turned out for this first fixture of the new year against local rivals who kindly agreed to play two games to allow everyone a run out. In the first game despite the muddy conditions Tavistock played text book rugby with the forwards securing the ball and scrum half Philip Snell giving quick service to the backs. Ball carrying forwards of note Daniel Oner, Mark Friend and prop George Harold all made good ground. Fly half Jack Morgan and centres Elliot Hoyte and Barnaby Frost combined to form an unstoppable force with Hoyte scoring four tries and Morgan, Frost and Snell one a piece. Kicking honours were shared between Morgan, Hoyte and Josh Stephens. With the change of personnel for the second game the shape of play turned more to a forwards game. Launceston held off the visitors for the whole of the first half but had all their attacks stopped by some first class tackling from defenders Rufus Gould, Callum Thompson and full back Jack Haigh. The last half saw Tavistock set up two excellent mauls with George Rodgers carrying the ball in and in both cases Callum Thompson powering over. Josh Leeson converted both. Launceston U10s 15 Tavistock U10s 15 TAVISTOCK started their 2005 fixtures with a tough away game at Launceston. The conditions were very wet underfoot and the match was hard fought by two good, powerful sides. Rhys Davies opened the scoring for Tavistock, following good work in the backs by Henry Kisby and Henry Salmon. Launceston replied with a try in the corner. Tavistock, whose pack of Sam Northmore, Jonty Newton and Connor Williams were dominating the scrums, scored a further two tries from Will Coulton and Rhys Davies, to go in 15-5 up. The second half was end to end stuff. Jamie Stephens went close with an elusive run down the wing and Frasier Bayliss made a couple of breaks from the base of the scrum to release two tries into the corners to equalise. This week, training at 10am. Launceston U8s 35 Tavistock U8s 25 THIS return fixture at Launceston saw the hosts turn the tables following Tavistock?s victory earlier in the season. Early in the game Tavistock lost Marcus Hoddinott with a leg injury, but undeterred they took the lead through David Northey?s darting run. There then followed five or six unanswered tries as Tavistock struggled to adjust to some strict rule interpretations and the strong running of two of Launceston?s youngsters backed up with some slick handling from the home side. Barney Megicks gave the visitors some hope with a well taken try. Inspired by the forceful running and good offloads by player of the match Nick Piper, the Tavistock team put in a spirited performance in the final third of the game to bring themselves within one score of the opposition. Tries from Kris Chapman and Tom Jackman were followed by tigerish defensive work from Ben Hosking and Laurence Harrison as Tavistock clawed their way back into the game. Nick Jory and Jonnie Massey probed the Launceston defence with intelligent runs and Ben Steel capped a fine individual performance with a well deserved try. On Sunday training at the club at 10am.
