Bude Ladies 1

Okehampton Columbines 4

THIS was not Okehampton's best performance of the season, but with a full weekend of fixtures it was a good match to win with something in reserve.

A goal came early when Jo Moppett, then playing left inner, smacked the ball into the back of the net. However, while Okehampton dominated, it was a while before they could add another.

Carol Taylor tackled strongly in central defence for Okehampton, pushing up the defensive line to support the attack. Young players Grace Thorpe and Rachel Hammett both ran willingly, chasing down the ball to sustain the Oke pressure. Inevitably it was Jo Moppett who scored again with a terrific side stick strike.

Bude did pull one back with their first shot at goal, taking the Oke ladies by surprise.

Okehampton were better balanced in the second half, when Jo Moppett moved to centre forward to spearhead the attack.

Hannah Whiteley had an excellent game when she came on at left wing and was unlucky not to score herself.

Moppett got her hat-trick when she got on the end of a good team move and Viv Weatherington got the fourth a few minutes from time.

Mannamead Ladies' Seconds 1

Okehampton Columbines 5

THE weather made things difficult for both sides, with heavy rain and hail showers.

Columbines were the stronger side and put in a much better team performance.

Jo Moppett was imperious at centre forward and set up the first goal for Alex Collins to tuck away.

Jane Jones and Jennie Humphrey snuffed out any attack on the Mannamead left. Sandy Douglas did the same on the right with Caroline Friend and Carol Taylor working hard in the middle to pick up the ball and drive forward. Joey Drake scored Okehampton's second goal and then fine interplay between her and Jo Moppett at a short corner saw Moppett add a third.

To their credit, Plymouth side Mannamead did not give up and it was a well-taken shot that beat the Okehampton goalkeeper, Sophie Whiteley.

Hannah Whiteley on Oke's right wing and Alex Collins on the left both played well, giving width to the Columbines' game and terrorising the Mannamead defence.

The constant pressure on the Mannamead goal paid off when Moppett slipped the ball over the diving goalkeeper, followed by a well set-up goal taken by Caroline Friend, who made no mistake in pushing the ball past the goalkeeper.

• It was a good weekend for the Columbines, but they will face tougher opposition when they travel to Truro this Saturday.
