Tavistock Cricket Club

v West Devon Club

WITH the last of the summer sun disappearing over the horizon Tavistock entertained their friends from the West Devon club in this end of season game.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat.

Tavistock started well with Josh Stephens and James McGahey getting them off to a flyer with 50 on the board after only five overs. Stephens eventually ending up with 48 not out, Andy Rich with 25 and John McGahey 18 made steady progress but good bowling from Simon Hardy (3-14) and John Emptage (1-15) pegged Tavistock back. With the score at 122 Tavistock seemed short of a reasonable total but Dave Statton unleashed the willow to strike three fine fours to take Tavistock to 165 at the end of their 25 overs.

West Devon started well with 36 on the board before the second wicket fell, Paul Banford was getting into his stride, dispatching John McGahey for four through mid wicket but McGahey got his revenge when he had him caught at mid off by Statton for 18.

Andy Rich backed up McGahey with a tight spell taking two wickets and the West Devon seemed to have lost their way but Scott Dent and Luke Clements put on a 40 run partnership to put them back in the hunt.

Then disaster as Clements was run out for 17, the wheels then fell off and when John Rich was lbw to Matt Anderson for 1 and West Devon were 104 all out.

The result really was immaterial as everyone had a most enjoyable day and many friendships were made,

Those taking part thanked Roger Rich for organising the West Devon Club to visit the Ring, Teresa Roberts for scoring, Paul and Pat Vickers, Steve Fowler and Barry Milligan for the food and entertainment.
