Tavistock RFC Thirds 43

Salcombe RFC Seconds 12

THIS was a very good natured match played in awful conditions.  The wind and rain did threaten to make the match a bit of a mockery, as early on the ball was controlled by the elements rather than the players.

Luckily the wind let up half way through the first half and some decent rugby could be played.  Steve Lilley scored Tavistock's opener with a classic flanker's swoop on the loose ball after it came out of the back of the maul.

Kicking was near on impossible due to the wind.

Tavistock had a comfortable lead by half time but found it difficult to maintain the same amount of pressure in the second half, allowing the visitors to sneak a couple of late consolation tries.

Tavistock captain, Dominic Bourton, said: 'It would have been nice to have locked them out altogether — on the other hand they are a good bunch of guys and having travelled and played in such horrific weather, it's only fair they went home with something.'

Tavistock are pushing hard for first place in their league. See them in action again at Sandy Park this weekend, when they take on Newton Abbot.
