WALKHAMPTON Pre-School has been given a good report by OFSTED inspectors.

The facility, which has been running for three decades from the village hall, was said to have a good quality overall.

Inspectors reported that Walkhampton offered a wide range of activities, despite being a small pre-school, and a high adult to child ratio ensuring the children received substantial individual and small group support.

The staff made particularly good use of one to one and small group opportunities to engage the children in conversation that extended their learning.

The report continued to say that all areas of the early learning goals were covered adequately, the children joined in activities with great interest and enthusiasm, especially when these were outdoor activities and trips out to see different places. A private outdoor area for the children to play in was also provided.

Run by a committee of dedicated parents who work closely with staff members, the pre-school also has one member of staff who is qualified to work with children with special educational needs.

The pre-school meets every weekday morning from 9am to noon and also offers a lunch club and parent and toddler sessions. It is now able to welcome two-and-a-half-year-olds without parental supervision.
