Duchy League Div 4 East

St Stephens Borough . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3

Callington . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0

THE first game of three in five days for Callington?s young side, proved to be a disaster.

Boroughs elder side hustled Callington out of the game and they lost their discipline and failed to play to their strengths.

The only positive thing to take out of the game was to learn that being better players doesn?t mean that you will win football matches.

Lamerton . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0

What a difference two days can make.

Callington took the game to Lamerton, with only two defeats all season, and apart from a 15 minute spell in the second half, completely dominated the game.

Woolley got the last touch for the first goal when he came up for a corner and in a scramble headed home.

Smith for Callington was having a fine game, his all effort game was keeping quiet Lamerton?s play maker, and his runs from midfield were more than matched by Chris Tilbury, in for the injured captain Martin.

Matt Reid hit a post, from distance, and with two other strikes from Callington hitting the bar, it was justice when Floyd scored on a break out of defence. When Tilbury ran through to add a third goal, Callington?s management breathed a bit easier and when Brown scored a fourth they were laid back in raptures.

A great victory over one of their closest rivals for honours.

Played in very difficult conditions, with a very strong wind blowing toward one goal and a rock hard pitch, making control almost impossible.

Callington got a great start when Floyd got a great ball into the box and Martin got a great header into the roof of the net before the keeper could move.

Superb goal kicking by Adam Fuller, into a strong wind was a major reason why Callington were able to race into a three goal lead by half time.

Strikes by Brown, starting to look fit again, and Floyd , improving with every game, put the game out of Looe?s reach by half time. Another factor was the central defenders duo of Tom Reid and Chris Canham, both destined to play at a higher level .

Another strike from Floyd finished the scoring, but Callington hope they don?t regret the missed chances to have won by a bigger margin.
