MORE than 50 people took part in a pilgrimage on Good Friday which culminated in a large wooden cross being placed on Sheepstor, following services in churches across the West Dartmoor Mission Community.
Pilgrims set out from Yelverton, Horrabridge, Walkhampton, Meavy and Princetown at different times on Good Friday morning, stopping along the way to remind themselves of the events of Good Friday leading up to the death of Jesus.
The Rev Preb Nick Shutt, Rector of the West Dartmoor Mission Community, said: 'People have braved the cold weather to walk the way of the cross. It has been a fantastic way to remind ourselves of the significance of this day for our faith and to re-enact what it meant for Christ to die for us.'
Having braved the howling wind on the top of Sheepstor the pilgrims retreated to Sheepstor village hall for soup and hot cross buns and to thaw out!
Some pilgrims returned to the moor on Easter Sunday at 7am for a sunrise service to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
