ROUND two of the South West of England Open Winter Foursomes was held at Yelverton Golf Club on Sunday.

The 23 pairs that had received a bye joined the fray, including last year's winners Tony Nash and Linda Simpson from Lostwithiel and Trevose, and Peter Laugher the professional at Thurlestone.

Nash and Simpson carried on their winning streak with a 2 and 1 victory over the Teign Valley duo of Daniel and Foxall; and Peter Laugher, with Daryl Day, had a convincing win 4 and 3 over Tim Aggett and Jack Mitchell from The Warren.

The Northey family from Yelverton GC had a successful day, father and son pairing of Ian and Mark beating G and D Lowden. from Wrangaton/Staddon, 3 and 1. The younger son, Ross Northey, and his partner Tom Squire, were taken to the 20th hole by Peter Chapman from Thurlestone and his partner Toby Clayton.

Other Yelverton family pairings were not so successful, with Chris and Brian Parriss going down 8 and 7 to the East Devon professional Duncan Giblett and his partner Howard Tubbs.

Most of the PGA professionals were successful, with Dominic Rehaag and Tony Finnigan from Tavistock winning comfortably 4 and 3. The strong pairing of Neil Holman and Paul Hendriksen from Stover won convincingly 5 and 4.

Yelverton professional Tim Mc Sherry and Laura Eastwood continue their fine form beating past winner Martin Moon and his partner Neville Richards 3 and 2.

Stuart Disney from Torquay, and Martin Cayless from Dainton Park were also successful. This leaves three professionals in the top half of the draw, and five in the bottom half, battling for £1,000 first prize for professionals.

China Fleet players had mixed fortunes; Jimmy Foy and John Thomas played well to beat local Greens Committee members Dave Howard and Dave Gove of Yelverton, but Tom Swaby and Adrian Tarsky finally lost to the Elfordleigh pair of Paul Elliott and Mark Gardner at the 19th hole.

The fourth round takes place on Sunday, November, 11, starting at 9pm and spectators are welcome to watch the keenly contested matches.
