THE south-west Cross-Country championships was held on Sunday combined with the third meeting of this year's Westward Winter League. This was held at Exeter.

There was a good turnout from Tavistock Athleltic Club with a particularly strong vet men's team.

The first race of the day was a combined senior ladies, Under 20 ladies and Under 17 girls race. Louise ran well to finish in an overall 50th place, (placing in the Under 17 girls event currently unavailable).

In the Under 15 girls race there was an exceptionally strong field and Suzy Blandford, running in her first Westward league race finished in 18th place.

The Tavistock Club's best position was in the Under 17 junior mens race which saw Adam Holland finish in an excellent 2nd place winning the silver medal in the championship event. In the Under 15 boys event Alex Richards had a strong run finishing in a good 9th place with Ross Honey finishing well in 21st place.

In the senior men's race Richard Drage, making a welcome return to the cross-country scene, was the first Tavistock runner home in 18th place closely followed by Martin Exley in a good 20th place.

Allan Herdman finished in 77th place followed by Chris Eastaugh in 85th place.

Peter Bazley and Mike Lewis finished respectively in 96th and 97th place.
