Devon seconds B
Chudleigh seconds
v Yelverton seconds
YELVERTON came away with the lion's share of the points from their trip to table topping Chudleigh seconds. Chudleigh won the toss and asked Yelverton to bat first.
Regular opening pair, skipper Jason Degg and veteran Andy Taylor put on an opening stand of 46 before Degg played on and was bowled for 28.
Gul Khan came and went for 4, lbw to Chudleigh skipper Mark Heather to leave the Bohemians on 51-2.
Taylor was joined by Gerry Keen at the wicket and the experienced pair proceeded to put on 98 for the third wicket in vintage style before Keen was out for 41, caught at long-off with the total on 149. Taylor was struggling with a leg injury so a runner was requested and skipper Degg duly joined Taylor and Dave Scott in the middle. The 'trio' put on 32 for the fourth wicket before Taylor was caught and bowled for 70. Mike Chetwynd was then run-out for eight with the total on 200-5.
Scott fell for 34 with the score on 229, well caught on the boundary and it was left to Matt Tamsett (36 not out) and Joel Avery (6no) added a quick 23 runs to leave the Bohemians on 251-6.
Chudleigh's reply started badly as they lost Lemarquand for a duck, bowled by Avery with the score on 17. Six runs later Foreward was caught and bowled by Geraint Heath for 11 and then Heath removed B Ripley, caught for 4 to leave Chudleigh on 30-3. This soon became 42-4 when Howard was caught by Keen off Tony Carter.
Skipper Heather and Sercombe stopped the rot and put on 24 for the fifth wicket before Heather was superbly caught by Scott at square leg. Sercombe (29) looked comfortable but with the score on 81 he was run out by a direct hit by Scott from cover looking to scamper a single. With the score on 81-6, Chudleigh were a long way from safety but some obstinate batting from their lower order frustrated Yelverton.
Despite losing two more wickets to the guile of Chetwynd the home side succeeded in flat batting it to end their innings on 174-8. M Ball (25) and veteran keeper Mike Trout (21) were the not out batsmen at the end. Heath (2-23) and Chetwynd (2-34) were the most successful bowlers for the Bohemians.
Yelverton seconds (14 points) drew with Chudleigh II (8pts).
