LAST Thursday was a cold, windy but bright day for the new ladies' captain of Yelverton and her drive-in Yelverton Ladies Golf Club.

The ladies gathered at the first tee to  join the ladies' captain, Elizabeth Calder, for a drink before she tees off.

The first drive of her year as ladies' captain is a nerve wracking experience as all the ladies look on — nerves are overcome in an effort to get that ball on the green!

Elizabeth  wore a hat embellished by Penny Hunter and Chris Longden to carry on a tradition of recent years at the Drive-Ins.

The hat was decorated with items to show Elizabeth's past employment (the NHS) and also some playing cards to show her passion for bridge.

The drive was very successful, almost making the green.
