MORE than 200 golfers battled it out at the 16th annual Okehampton and District Lions Club golf day on September 2, raising £9,000 for Children's Hospice South West.

Okehampton Golf Club was the setting for the event, where around 50 teams of four players competed for top spot. The winners of the tournament were Paul Rattenbury, J Rattenbury, L Chapman and D Rice with a score of 93 points. For their efforts they won green fees and buggies at St Mellion Country Club in East Cornwall.

Close behind were the second place team of Nick Holliday, T Daniels, M Soby and J Etheridge with 89 points, winning green fees at Oaks Championships.

Third prize went to Chris Poutney, J Behennah, C Beadle and P Worledge who won green fees and golf balls at Saunton Golf Club with their total of 87 points.

The team draw prize was won by Wolseley UK Plumb Centre, who won a golf package at the Manor Castle Combe Country Club, kindly donated by Martin Watson.

The grand draw held in conjunction with the golf day was won by Mrs Ginn Sory.

The Lions Club expressed thanks to the supporters, draw prize donators, sponsors and Okehampton Golf Club and staff who made the day such a great success.

Next year the event will be held on Friday August 31.
