TAVISTOCK Thistles Football Club organised a golf day at Yelverton golf club and ended up raising in excess of £750 for the football club and just under £100 for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Thirty one golfers from all over the county attended the fun day.
The sponsors of the day varied from gift vouchers from Creber's and Howell's of Tavistock, to £100 donations from Denver Construction Services Ltd based in Cardiff, and ASTEC Services Ltd from Cheshire.
Organiser of the event, Martin Harris, persuaded his usual playing partners, Alan Bloomfield and Dean Cornish, to chip in with the sponsorship of holes by their companies — Net-Tex equine products and Kawasaki Precision Machinery of Roborough. Sponsorship banners were provided courtesy of DP Graffix.
Thistles' chairman, Mick Calvert, raised a further £150 from companies Hall and Kay, Wilson James and Trade Labour Solutions, while Andy Furse, from Wolseley UK Build Centre, sponsored a hole.
Long term sponsors of the Football Club, The Plymouth Chiropractic Clinic, also sponsored a hole but also provided a prize offering free treatment, which was given to Paul Langdon who, somehow, managed to win his section, with a score of 33 points, playing with only one hand due to a shoulder injury.
The main prize of the day was a pen with a value of around £300 donated by Conway Stewart, this was won in raffle by Alan Bloomfield of Net-Tex.
Dave Langdon, from the Rock and Whitchurch Inns, had a great day, coming second in the top Stableford section and winning a four ball golf day at Trethorne golf course for his 81 strokes, which was the lowest gross score on the day.
Tim, from Chez Vous PC at Crapstone, sponsored the nearest the pin competitions, and a voucher for swimming lessons from Swimcats was snapped up by one of the competitors for his niece. Keltec sports supplied some T-shirts which were given away with the free raffle which was run at the end to make sure as many people as possible walked away with something.
