MORE than £7,000 was raised from the ninth Okehampton District Lions Club Charity Golf Day held at Okehampton Golf Club in aid of the Children?s Hospice South West.
More than 220 golfers from as far afield as Middlesborough competed in fine weather for a prize fund of over £1,000.
The evening prizegiving was attended by hospice representative Alison Berridge, who accepted the cheque from Lions president Mike Chastey.
The total amount raised so far from the golf days has topped £50,000.
The winning team, with a score of 92 points, was A Shapland, R Ford, R Iles and D Way, who won a golfing break at St Pierre, Chepstow, donated by Vacancy Check, Okehampton.
The second prize, donated by St Mellion Golf Club, was won by G Mitchell, C Ball, R Uren and A Kirkby with 89 points (best back 9).
Third prize, donated by Trethorne Golf Club, was won by A Clark, K Cornwall, C Cornwall and J Tolley with 89 points (best back 6).
The fourth prize, donated by Ashbury Golf Club, was won by T Davis, S Davis, P Bodycombe and K Redfern with 89 points.
The grand draw, run in conjunction with the golf day, was won by Mr Laird of Manchester, who received a cash prize of £100.
Okehampton Lions thanked Okehampton Golf Club and its staff for the use of their club and for setting up the golf course and providing catering facilities. They also thanked the programme advertisers, donors of prizes, supporters and Lions Club members? wives.

Next year?s Golf Day has already been booked for Friday, September 2.
