SUMMER arrived just in time for the Tavistock Ladies? guest day at Tavistock Golf Club. Always an enjoyable day and with the course in excellent condition plus blue skies and warm sunshine, there were some excellent scores made. Jan Walls and Beth Radcliffe came first and were winners of the Rosemary Cook Trophy with 39 points; second, Jill Hill and Anne-Clare Landolt (38pts) on countback from Sue Gowing and Karen Preston in third. Winners of the front nine, Belinda McSherry and Gill Whitelock (20pts); back nine Penny Deacon and Jan Hunt (20pts); guests only ? nearest the pin, Anthea Kelsey and longest drive Anne-Clare Landolt. The monthly medal was played in conjunction with the Goddard Smith Trophy. Results division one: 1, Maggie Hillman (nett 76) on countback from Nicki Gawman. Division two, 1 Judith Morley (nett 72); 2, Pat Taylor (75). The winner of the Goddard Smith Trophy was Judith Morley. The Rickard Bowl was played in conjunction with an extra medal and the winner was Maggie Hillman (nett 74), and runner up with 77 was Fran Horton; in division two: 1, Sally Timpson (nett 76), 2, Ruth Mynott (78). Once again the sun shone for the Ladies Foursomes Cup, where the winners were Pat Hoar and Norma Thewlis (nett 79) and runners up were Elaine Cooper and Pat Taylor with 80. The busy August month continued with the Truscott Pittman Trophy, a four BBB competition with drawn partners. Winners with a good score of nett 71 were Elaine Cooper and Barbara Porter; runners up were Jenny Bryant and Bridget Luckham with 75. The second round of the men versus ladies match was a hard fought contest but played with great humour. The ladies lost four and three and so, once again, the Callard Cup went to the men. It was a great day but one tinged with regret ? Richard and Judith Morley, great supporters and active members of the club, played their last game at Tavistock before they left to start a new life in Australia.
