DIGNITARIES from Tavistock and Pontivy marked the 50th anniversary of twinning between the two towns last weekend.

During a visit to Pontivy last October as part of the golden celebrations, Tavistock mayor Robin Pike personally invited the mayor of Pontivy Jean-Pierre le Roch.

The special invitation was accepted and the visit also tied in with the civic ball on Friday at Tavistock Town Hall, where the mayor of Pontivy and his dignitaries were guests of honour.

Over the weekend Cllr Pike and town council staff had organised many activities for the French visitors. These included a visit to Morwellham Quay for a pasty lunch and tour, a tour of Tavistock Museum, and a chance to sign the charter to mark the anniversary.

During the civic ball the mayor of Pontivy said how grateful he was to Cllr Pike and the town council staff for organising his visit to Tavistock.

He added that he thought the trip was well organised and must have taken a lot of planning — he also added that he enjoyed the 'magnificent' trip to Morwellham.
