THERE were smiles all round for a golden couple recently, who celebrated 50 years of marriage with a special blessing in Lamerton. Henry and Joyce Towl met at Great Haye in Lamerton when Henry came to work on the farm. They married on July 30, 1955 in Lamerton Church and initally lived at Pittscombe, then moved to Ashburton for three years before returning to West Devon ? they now live in Horrabridge. The couple, who have three children and five grandchildren, decided to go back to Lamerton Church 50 years to the minute after their wedding day, and were surprised and delighted to find the Rev Greg Stanton waiting for them at the church. Mr Stanton blessed the couple and their rings in what was described by their daughter Sandy as a ?very emotional, poignant moment? . Henry and Joyce celebrated their anniversary with a party for family and friends at the Blacksmith?s Arms in Lamerton and thanked everyone who had donated so generously to Devon Air Ambulance in lieu of gifts, on what had been a very special evening. They also extended a special thank you to Mr Stanton who took the time out to bless the couple on their big day.
