A TAVISTOCK couple who have been in farming all their lives have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Joan and Gordon Northey met in their early teens when they lived at Kelly near Lifton. Gordon lived on a farm and Joan lived across the fields. They married on October 1 1955 at Kelly Church, and immediately went to live on their own farm at Canworthy Water in north Cornwall. They later farmed at Saltash before moving to Tavistock, where they continued farming for 26 years before retirement. The couple requested donations for the Devon Air Ambulance instead of gifts, and as a result are presenting £370 to the charity. ?I thought £200 would be good, but this is an amazing amount,? Joan said. Family and friends joined Joan and Gordon for celebrations at the Bedford Hotel on Sunday October 2.
