A YELVERTON school which uses new technology to celebrate and showcase the work of its children has been judged as a winner in a national awards scheme.

Lady Modiford's C of E Primary School of Yelverton was a winner in this year's Golden Owl Website Awards-which recognise excellence in web design among schools

Headteacher Jim Knight said: 'The website is a valuable way of celebrating children's work and giving them a real audience for their writing and images. They are also able to work online on multimedia presentations, fulfilling an element of the ICT curriculum.

'This is very much "their" website and the award is for the whole school, children and staff.'

All the schools recognised by the awards have created and maintain websites using the Schools Internet KIt, provided to education entirely free of charge, which currently supports over 3,500 school users.

The summer term Golden Owl Awards were presented at a ceremony in Gloucestershire. Lady Modiford's Primary School was among eighteen schools judged to be Sites of Distinction, and the school received a prize of new computer software.
