Exeter University 0
Okehampton Argyle 1st..0
THE first half started with Argyle choosing to play with the gale force winds on their backs, hoping the elements might give them an early advantage.
University had not read the script and soon they had Argyle?s back four at full stretch, and only some excellent defending by Vernon, Gill, Williams and Wills kept the home side from taking the least they probably deserved.
On the rare occasions Okehampton did manage to put the ball on the ground they did cause Exeter problems, but these chances were few and far between.
When the interval came neither side had been able to break the deadlock.
The second half saw Argyle improve and soon saw Kingsley Sandercock and Evans beginning to find a lot more space at midfield, enabling them to release Burdus and Clarke, whose non-stop running all afternoon should have rewarded them some spoils, but their efforts went wide of the goal.
University kept up their work rate.
But they were unable to build on their efforts of the first half, because of the tracking back of the back four and also the hard tackling by Agnew.
Gibbs and King were brought on midway through the second half,
Their fresh legs seemed to inspire Argyle and for the next 15 minutes Okehampton looked like the side more likely to score.
But this was not to be, and with time running out University probably had the best opportunity of the match.
When a goal-bound shot from their centre forward was brilliantly tipped round the post by Clift making sure Argyle came away from Exeter with a point they thoroughly deserved.
This week 1st XI play Sidmouth, home; 2nd XI Lympstone, away; 3rd XI Sandford, home, all kick-offs 3pm.
