Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 0 Saltash Utd 1 THE Lambs were virtually unchanged last Tuesday from the previous game against Penryn apart from Jimmy Kiely coming in for Nigel Pugh and captain Will Stringer reverting to central defence. The Ashes looked the sharper from the outset and created the chances in the first 15 minutes with Mark Chapman and Marc Thorne each going close. The best chance for the Lambs went to Glynn Hobbs on 35 minutes when from a through ball he volleyed over the bar. The visitors continued to dominate after the break and almost went ahead on 50 minutes but for the heroics of Lambs keeper Andy Meeds. Chapman's high shot saw Meeds tip his shot onto the bar for it to fall in the area but he was the quickest to react to take the ball off Thorne's foot and gather in. Shane Krac let fly just prior to the hour and the Lambs had their best chance just after as a through ball saw the Ashes keeper Lee Carew miss kick for Hobbs to get control and with the goal at his mercy from 20 yards chose to try and break the net when an attempt on target with a more control would probably have seen him netted. The chance had gone and so did the points as Saltash's Chapman got to the by-line to cross for Thorne to head home from close range at the far post 10 minutes later. Substitute Mark Conday had a good chance to draw level right on the stroke of full time but Carew came off his line to block his effort; moments later a through ball saw Conday and Carew going for the ball and unfortunately the keeper came off worse in the challenge and had to receive lengthy treatment before being stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle. Finally play continued but it was to no avail for the Lambs and the Ashes ran out worthy winners.
