WEST Devon planners have granted permission for a development of six homes at Lamerton despite some objection from local residents.

Concerns were expressed by villagers and Lamerton Parish Council that the density of the housing was too great for the 0.25 hectare site at Greenhill but members of West Devon Borough Council?s planning committee were told this week it was less than what was stated in the current policy.

In light of Government guidelines, housing densities are now required to be 30-50 dwellings per hectare which would mean the site could accommodate at least eight homes ? planning officers feel this figure is not unreasonable given the location of the site.

The land is within the proposed development boundary for Lamerton and will be included in the new local plan having not been contested at the local plan Inquiry.

The applicant ? Mr B Hughes ? has amended the proposal from three separate accesses to a single access in line with County Highway standards following concerns about highway safety.

It is not considered that this application would set a precedent for future housing development within the adjoining area.
