A CYCLE/walkway and a private horse-riding route at Lydford has been granted planning permission by Dartmoor National Park Authority.

The construction site is a 460-metre section of the disused railway trackbed adjacent to Lydford House Hotel and immediately to the north of a road bridge on the eastern approach to the village.

The proposal by the County Environment Director includes a chicane to restrict the width of the road over the bridge to a single lane with limited parking at both ends of this restriction aimed at disabled users.

The scheme is part of a larger proposal to create a continuous cycleway/walkway from Lydford to Okehampton Station and is part of the Devon Coast to Coast National Cycle Network.

DNP was told there had been concerns from local residents regarding the extent and visual impact of the proposed traffic calming measure and they stressed the need to ensure a clear access to the adjacent field.

Planning officers said revised plans showed a simpler approach deleting all parking spaces except one for the disabled, a reduced variety of paving materials and reduced kerb heights.
