A NEW license to sell fast food from a pitch in Tavistock?s Guildhall car park will be issued, following an agreement by town councillors last week. A late night fast food operator had been operating successfully in the square until recently. Town clerk Roger Howard told members he had received a request from another operator for a license to trade. Cllr Mandy Govier told the town?s properties committee that police backed the idea of a late night fast food outlet ? and that new licensing laws meant an operator would have to meet strict requirements. Cllr Norma Woodcock proposed a new license should be made available. She said: ?I think it?s appropriate we agree in principle that we look to replacing the burger bar ? it would certainly not present any problems and could even help some.? Deputy town clerk Rosie Kehoe said there had now been more than one expression of interest in the town centre pitch. She said the lease to operate from the square was in the process of being updated ? any prospective operators would be required to obtain a late night trading license from West Devon Borough Council and a preferred trader would be offered the lease by the town council in due course.
