OUTLINE planning permission has been granted by West Devon planners for a dwelling on the site of Whitchurch Village Hall.
Consent has already been granted for the demolition of the hall, which is suffering severe structural problems and has remained unused for the last two years.
West Devon Borough Council's planning committee at its meeting last week agreed unanimously that permission for a detached dwelling and vehicular access to the site should be granted to the trustees of the hall.
Two letters of objection relating to access to the site and size of the building were received by the committee.
Planning officer Edward Persse said any new building on the site should be single-storey to prevent overlooking of other properties, plus planting as part of a landscaping condition. The Highways Agency was confident safe access could be created.
